What DO We Do With All Those Bicycles That We Recover Every Year?
Every year, the Watertown Police Dept. recovers literally "hundreds" of bicycles from the streets and peoples' yards in town. In the past, we used to sell them at our annual City Surplus Auction held every Spring. Recently, we started a new program where we send them to Springfield Prison, where they are either refurbished, or "parted" out to help refurbish other bikes. These refurbished bikes are then sent out to the various cities that are involved in the program, and given away to the public. We don't get back the same bikes we send them, and almost never have a specific date when we know we'll be getting bikes. We do the most extensive media blitz we are able to, and announce when we have bikes to give away to the public. On this page are some of the happy past recipients of these bikes.
Young and old alike, c'mon in and get a bike ! ! !
A very special THANK YOU goes out to the Crew and Staff at Springfield Prison for making this program possible, and for the excellent work you do on the bikes. It IS appreciated ! ! !
"CAMP CHANCE - 2006" Below are a few pictures from Camp Chance. These bikes were sent back for use by the children at the camp, and given away to these and other children in and around our community, at the conclusion of the camp. Once again it's "Hat's Off" to the staff and workers at Springfield for making this possible!

Pick out a good one!
And... they're OFF!
Putting them through the paces.
Nice Job, guys!
Check for broken bones...
...and OFF we go again ! ! !
A big wave and some smiles for the workers at Springfield, and the volunteers at "Camp Chance!" Thank you ALL ! ! !
